A Dream That Became A Reality

The excitement before the day was unexplainable, with euphoria that I still cannot believe where it came from.  Thinking weeks before Thursday, April 19, 2012; I was head over heels preparing for the Dee day, my graduation day.

Everything just changed within a split second of closing my eyes to sleep and wait for the day of graduation.  It all felt like a dream, and I thought it was one that I was not going to be able to wake up from; as there was no excitement, just confusion and doubt whether it was truly me wearing that black gown and the red and black hood, with the colour red representing the colour of my faculty.

With only the photographs taken on the day, I was sure enough that I had been dreaming all these years; and the dream finally came true.

The Sound Of One Hand Clapping

Imagine an exam room full of students ready to write their final exam, nobody makes noise; but they are all frustrating and anxious, some ready to write and some not prepared.

The noise you get while they are busy concentrating on their papers, is the same sound of a hand trying so hard to clap and make a sound without the help from the other hand; and that is SILENCE!!

Sudden Realization

Photograph by: Zandile Mcinziba

As I was home during the Easter holidays, I decided to venture out and see the developments that were said to be taking place in Colesberg. I went straight to town, and was welcomed by a strike and burning of tyres right in the middle of the road; and also noticed the deteriorating state of our roads that were full of pot holes that were majorly an effect of huge trucks coming inside our town instead of using the N1.

With great relief, I was excited that finally they were finally striking about the poor service delivery, roads full of potholes, and including the dirty water we drink from our taps. Sudden realization came in mind as I gathered the reasons, and was so disappointed to find that the strike was actually about a few people who were not even more than two; who didn’t want to accept that their contracts with the municipality had expired, and saw that they should bring in the poor people by telling them many different stories about the reason of the strike.

It has really come to such a disgust and insult on how those in power take advantage of our communities all in the benefit of their personal and selfish reasons.

Not All Who Wonder Are Lost

One may be confused about what they want to become in life, may lose hope about all else and feel lost and alone; but there comes a time whereby you just realise that you have wasted so much time not knowing what to do.

There are times that you find wondering was all one needed to do in order to find themselves along the way, and has helped one to becoming more of a better person. It might have taken one years to decide on what their purpose is, where they want to go; but all that matters is that the destination will finally be reached.

Crossroads

Photograph taken from: http://vividlife.me/ultimate/6407/hitting-the-crossroads-in-life-making-the-transition/

We meet people in our daily lives, and it is never guaranteed that the people we meet and those we become friends with will forever be in our lives; but still we let them be part of our lives for the time being they are still in our lives and we are happy to have them as friends, and or family.

A friend of mine once said “we meet and part with people, so rather treasure every moment you have with them for you don’t know whether they are there to stay or just for a while”.

That made me think about all the people I have met and parted with along the way, some were worth it and some were rather painful and emotional. Appreciation goes a long way; it is just for us to acknowledge all the good we have.

How do you step down from the top of a 100-foot pole?

Photograph taken from: http://shokai.blogspot.com/2010/04/meanwhile-back-on-100-foot-pole.html

I am thinking to myself, if one has difficulty climbing down a 100 foot pole; how the hell did they get up there anyway?!

There are so many easy ways for people to get what they want at the time they want it; and it all gets down to the point of making good and bad decision for oneself.

When the tough gets going, there are only two ways I can think of to get yourself out a difficult situation. It’s either you slowly slide down the pole, or you just give up and hit rock bottom; which is not what I’d expect people to do because only a coward would give up without putting up a fight.

Bid For A Brighter Future

Always wondered why so many communities make so much progress, whereas in other parts of the country they seem to be in standstill? I’ve always had the same question myself until I saw what happens when communities stand together and share their ideas and voices for the right cause.

It all started as a dream that everybody had, with everyone living in their fantasy world about what they would like to see happening in their community and town. Then, it may have seemed like a dream that will never come true; but today the community of Colesberg is nearer to having their dream become a reality.

It only took the people of this community unity and one voice to their dream nearer to reality, and the leaders listening to them and being their voices to those superior in order for them to be heard.

When people stand together with the same values and sentiments, a lot is highly going to be achieved. It may take years for dreams to become reality, for they will bring about change that will benefit those against them.
