Sudden Realization

Photograph by: Zandile Mcinziba

As I was home during the Easter holidays, I decided to venture out and see the developments that were said to be taking place in Colesberg. I went straight to town, and was welcomed by a strike and burning of tyres right in the middle of the road; and also noticed the deteriorating state of our roads that were full of pot holes that were majorly an effect of huge trucks coming inside our town instead of using the N1.

With great relief, I was excited that finally they were finally striking about the poor service delivery, roads full of potholes, and including the dirty water we drink from our taps. Sudden realization came in mind as I gathered the reasons, and was so disappointed to find that the strike was actually about a few people who were not even more than two; who didn’t want to accept that their contracts with the municipality had expired, and saw that they should bring in the poor people by telling them many different stories about the reason of the strike.

It has really come to such a disgust and insult on how those in power take advantage of our communities all in the benefit of their personal and selfish reasons.
