My Secret Love: Choral Music

Photograph taken from: http://transitionaljusticeinthemotherland.files.wordpress.com/2011/06/choirs.jpg

I remember back in the days, where one was always beaten up by music teachers in Primary school for missing rehearsals or not singing what you were supposed to, sometimes it would even go further to not having sung in the assembly.

We were never given a chance to decide for ourselves whether we want to sing or not, but coming to think of it now…maybe they did see the potential and talent, that’s why there was always a punishment for either of the two: missing rehearsal and not singing at the assembly.

I realized that I really loved choral music, and that has been groomed throughout the years by being an active church choir member, from Sunday school up to the Youth Choir and later on I joined the CPUT CHOIR. If it wasn’t for the extra mural activities, one would have never really known that they can actual be part of a choir that sings beautifully, and your voice being one of the 60 voices that make up the choir.

One thing I know, choral music has been my secret love for all these years; for whenever I felt down, I just always had and still have some hope that if I sing a piece on my own, all shall be well.

If I Were A Boss

If I truly were a boss, I would really make a difference and not take my frustrations of previous boss's treatment on people who know nothing about it.

Nothing’s more important than a happy and motivated work force as it leads to taking the business to greater heights. Employees would be given a chance to voice out their concerns about the state of the business, views that would lead to the business being a success.

Yes, there will be times of frustration because of deals lost, and mistakes made..and I believe that good communication will help me and my employees over come all the obstacles and challenges that we will face along the way.

One more thing, I would congratulate former bosses for making sure that I never survived in their organizations; for that led to me being a much better person than I was under their leadership.

Money Doesn't Buy All You Need

Photograph taken from: http://angryafrican.net/2008/09/03/ubuntu-or-its-like-breathing/

It took me a year at an NGO called Siyaphambili Orphan Village, based in Langa, Cape Town to realize not everything is about money. When I first came to the orphanage I thought it was specially built for the children, only to find out that the founder of the orphanage has converted her own home to an orphan village to accommodate all the children who now live with her and her family.

I was so touched and inspired to see that there are still people who would go that far and take in children they don’t know, give them shelter, love, care, education and also be there for them physically, emotionally, psychologically and financially.

One would swear that she gets paid for all that she does for these children, but she is doing it out of love and developing her community for some children have already lost their parents and she became a mother and father to them.

It dawned that she didn’t need money to make the children happy again and give them hope; all it took was the goodness of her heart and helping where needed and where she could.

Two People Come Out Of A Building and Into A Story

Photograph taken from: http://www.doitproject.co.za/

I think of the two people coming out the building, and in my mind I see two hands taken out of pockets and stretched out for someone to hold on; and to me, that is the story they walked into; helping those who need help.

We are all so overshadowed and blinded by the notion of only being responsible for ourselves and those we love, and I wonder; would we ever move forward and be a united country that cares for each and every being that belongs in it?

It only takes a second stretching your arm out and be a helping hand to those who need your help the most, and with two hands one can make a total difference in someone else’s life and have huge impact on them.

Giving shelter to a homeless child; listening to that friend who needs to talk, being a shoulder to the one whom needs it; you would have made a difference you never imagined. Make a difference, for a helping hand is the most blessed.

University in the Northern Cape

Last year, when I first heard the news of the possibilities of a university to be built in the Northern Cape I was so surprised and shocked at the same time that they have seen such a need that will change the lives of the people of the province.

Knowing the illiteracy rate of the province myself, and having witnessed the rate of unemployment and the abuse of alcohol that has led to many other diseases; it really made me have hope that my Province is coming alive with possibilities that will keep the youth constructively busy.

It’s true that when people work together in unity towards a certain goal that will be a foundation phase of their road to success and a brighter future, all will be possible. Gladly enough that the Premier, Mrs. Hazel Jenkins did not turn a blind eye or shut her ears towards the matter.

Clearly some people do work for the benefit of their province and people, which will turn be a huge contribution to future generations. A round of applause to the people of the Northern Cape for fighting for what they believed in.

How hard is it to follow instructions?

Photograph taken from: http://www.horsnhayesart.com/images/Follow%20Instructions.jpg

Just the thought of having to think about a written or verbal guideline given to follow, it really makes my mind go blank because I just sit there and think to myself “Do I really need to go through all the trouble that the person standing in front of me is talking about?” and what exactly it is that is being said.

Following instructions is really hard as sometimes it even poses the fact of having to go forward to ask what it is that you don’t understand, and then you end up doing what you thought was being said; leading to not having followed instruction. The other part is being scared to ask a question so that you could be able to follow; you don’t even know whether you are going to be seen as stupid or as an idiot who ask senseless questions.

Therefore, the difficulty of being able to follow instructions comes with the fear of being labeled or seen as stupid or as an idiot; and for me, that’s how hard it is to follow instructions.
