Money Doesn't Buy All You Need

It took me a year at an NGO called Siyaphambili Orphan Village, based in Langa, Cape Town to realize not everything is about money. When I first came to the orphanage I thought it was specially built for the children, only to find out that the founder of the orphanage has converted her own home to an orphan village to accommodate all the children who now live with her and her family.

I was so touched and inspired to see that there are still people who would go that far and take in children they don’t know, give them shelter, love, care, education and also be there for them physically, emotionally, psychologically and financially.

One would swear that she gets paid for all that she does for these children, but she is doing it out of love and developing her community for some children have already lost their parents and she became a mother and father to them.

It dawned that she didn’t need money to make the children happy again and give them hope; all it took was the goodness of her heart and helping where needed and where she could.

  1. Good post. I am inspired but at the same time the question "what am I doing to contribute to society positively?" runs through my mind. Thought provoking piece Zandi.

  2. For one to positively contribute to the society doesn't always have to be in monetary terms, just the little time you contribute will put a smile on someone's face more than money would have; and the knowledge you have can sometimes do wonders...
